Eerder werd bekendgemaakt dat Brendan Fraser en Rachel Weisz na de eerste twee delen mogelijk opnieuw de hoofdrollen zullen vertolken in The Mummy 3. Stephen Sommers op zijn beurt liet weten deel 3 niet te regisseren.
Verschillende bronnen hebben deze week gemeld dat Rob Cohen, de man verantwoordelijk voor xXx en The Fast and the Furious, zijn plaats zal vervangen. Alfred Gough en Miles Millar zullen, net als ze dat voor Spider-Man 2, Shanghai Noon en Smallville deden, het script schrijven.

The Mummy Returns saw its heroes fight a wrestler -- i.e., Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the Scorpion King. Now the rumor is suggesting that, in The Mummy 3, married adventurer-protagonists Ricky and Evy O'Connell (played by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, respectively) may face off against a martial artist.
None other than Jet Li (Fearless, Lethal Weapon IV) is said to be up for a major role in the sequel, according to Mania.com.
They add that the sequel will follow Rick and Evy, along with their son, as they fight a new mummy menace. Adios, Imhotep.
Mania, which also claims the film will be titled Mummy: Curse of the Dragon, isn't certain that Jet Li will play the new mummy, but that's their best guess.
Although some reports indicate that Fraser and Weisz are set to reprise their roles for Mummy 3, Variety announced over the weekend that Weisz is set to star in Dirt Music for director Phillip Noyce. That project begins filming in Australia this August, which would appear to conflict with The Mummy 3's reported summer shoot.
